It’s about that time of year.  March Madness is only a couple weeks away and college basketball is heating up for the final sprint.  The Alaska Nanooks have a busy weekend as both the men and women host GNAC competitors at the Patty Center.  Who’s ready for Nanooks postseason hoops?

The games start tonight at 5:15 as the women Nanooks host the Wolves from Western Oregon.  The women are coming off their first conference win of the season after beating Central Washington on the road 73-70.  Now sitting at 3-20 overall (1-14 GNAC), the Nanooks would love to get back-to-back wins by beating the Wolves (8-16 overall, 3-11 GNAC) at the Patty Center.

The Nanook men have a tough matchup in Western Washington as they make a push for postseason play.  The Nanooks are currently 4th in the GNAC (top 6 teams make playoffs) after a close loss to UAA in Anchorage last Saturday.  The Nanooks need some home success this weekend to stay safe for playoff positioning.  The visiting Vikings from Western Washington will not make it easy.  The Vikings are the reigning and defending NCAA Division II National Champions.  The Vikings have continued their domination as they hold the longest winning steak in all of college basketball at 30 straight wins (dating back to last season’s title run).  Western Washington comes in at 24-0 overall and 14-0 GNAC.  The men’s game starts at 7:30, following the conclusion of the women’s contest.
