ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) — Anchorage police have released the name of an officer who fired on a car whose driver rammed a police vehicle.
Police say in a release that six-year veteran officer Keo Fujimoto fired on Lusia Pedro last Sunday morning after Pedro fled the scene. The shot broke out a window on Pedro’s car, causing minor injuries to two passengers.
Police say Pedro continued to flee, and his car was eventually stopped by a spike strip. He was arrested on assault and eluding charges after a foot chase.
Authorities say the incident started when Pedro tried to drive through a crowd of people behind a downtown bar early Sunday and brandished a weapon.
Fujimoto’s use of deadly force is under review by the Office of Special Prosecutions and Appeals.
