Oh, the press pass. The dream of a student-journalist. The almighty pass that allows you First Amendment rights to ask whoever, whatever, whenever. As Extreme Alaska reporters we have all just secured press passes and some of us have quickly put them to work.
Following a huge weekend of men’s and women’s hoops at the Patty Center, a crew of Extreme journalists joined the press corps for the Nanook men’s post-game conference. With members of local broadcast and print media on hand, including Daily News-Miner sports writer Danny Martin and news channel 13’s sports reporter Jamie Schwartzwald, the Extreme team jumped into the fray and had the chance to get in-the-moment quotes and emotion from UAF student-athletes and staff.
As a sports nerd myself, there is nothing better than having the chance to pick the coaches and athletes brains just minutes after a big contest. To top off the experience, we were kindly greeted and thanked for our presence by men’s head coach Mick Durham.
So let’s see just where this little pass thing can take us and what kind of stories and commentary we can dig up for all of our readers! I know I will be looking forward to future opportunities to question some ears off! Thanks to UAF and Extreme for allowing us sweet access and we will try to make you proud with quality stories. Go Nanooks!
