Nearly half of the Alaska Nanook Women’s hockey team almost didn’t make it to Ashburn, VA for the American Collegiate Hockey Association Women’s Division 2 National Championship tournament.

A snowstorm kept several planes from landing in the D.C. area. The team waited in the Chicago O’ Hare International Airport to see if their flight to the Reagan National Airport would be one of the 12 flights of the 16 linking the two airports would be canceled.

Fortunately they arrived in the nation’s capital with enough time to practice before the start of the tournament Thursday, March 7. First the Nanooks will play the Penn State Nittany Lions at 9:30 AM Alaska standard time. FastHockey will stream the tournament games at acha.fasthockey.com. Fans can also interact through Twitter on the ACHA twitter feed or using #ACHAVirginia2013.
