Thursday night opened the 2013 International Bonspiel at the Fairbanks Curling Club. This year marks the 78th anniversary of the annual bonspiel. Curlers from all over the world gather for a themed weekend of fun and competition. From Olympic-level curlers to once-a-month curling warriors, athletes join for live music, good food, and some stone-sliding on the Curling Club ice sheet. The 2013 event runs from April 4-7. Championship matches will be held Sunday afternoon. The event is free to the public and spectators are encouraged. Extreme Alaska sent reporter Micheal Ives to the opening night’s ceremonies.
